Pitch
Pursue is a 3D third-person, dark fantasy, open-world action RPG game, where the nameless hero with a conjuring ability embarks on an adventure across a cursed land filled with fearsome enemies, dangerous dungeons, and various puzzles. Her objective is to discover what happened to the world and recover all her lost memories.
Description
The game is an open-world space where the player can explore the world without restrictions and give options to the player to reach objectives in multiple ways. It could also contain linear elements (such as dungeons and building interiors), where the player is more restricted movement-wise and focused on the objective.
The player can move around the world freely by jumping, walking, jogging, or running if enough stamina is available.
There are non-playable characters (NPCs) in the world that guide the player towards either an easier or harder path to follow. Some encounters with them involve talking, where they might offer their help or ask the hero for help in return for a reward. These optional quests are not always straightforward, so it is up to the player's ability to complete them or not. Another type of encounter the player can have with NPCs is vendors, where the player can sell or purchase a variety of items such as potions, gems, and herbs that boost the player's survivability.
There are also less-helpful NPCs: the enemies, which will attack the player when they are close enough. There are three types of enemies: normal, elite, and boss. The normal enemies have a small health pool and limited move set but are high in numbers. Above them are the elite ones, which have more health, wider move sets and deal more damage. Finally, there are the boss types, which have a vast amount of health, various abilities, and attack patterns. These rare enemies require more precision and tactics to eliminate than the others and usually guard a new area or checkpoint. The resources are limited, so the player needs to think ahead and be careful to save as much health as possible before encountering any bosses.
If the player dies, the defeated normal enemies will respawn, and the hero is set back to the previously activated checkpoint. The player must start that path over again until the next checkpoint has been reached.
The checkpoints are safe zones in the game, where the player can save their position, use them as a teleport to travel to the already discovered checkpoints or spend their skill points to power up the character. The checkpoints are scattered around the world, so the player can travel longer distances in a few seconds using the teleport features of them.
To fight against the enemy foes the player can use stances, which represent different fighting styles in the game (melee, ranged spell, defense). In the beginning, there is a melee stance, so the player can fight against enemies, but later more stances can be acquired by eliminating bosses and the player can switch between them to match the right fight style against the enemies. Every stance has a basic ability and as the player levels up, more active skills can be unlockable to make the game more versatile.
Defeating enemies will reward the player with experience points (EXP). With enough EXP, the player can level up, earning skill points and unlocking active or passive abilities on a talent tree, which can be bought with the skill points. These abilities either deal damage or increase the player's attack, defense, health, crit rate, and crit damage stats. With the skill points, the player can also activate additional melee and ranged weapons to make the gameplay more versatile.
The player can also improve her combat abilities and damage output by using gemstones. The character has a limited number of gemstone slots that are unlocked as the player levels up. Each gemstone has a particular passive ability that allows the player to customize their abilities to their own playstyle. If the player adds the same type and rarity gemstones 2 or 4 times, it will unlock additional passive abilities which are activated if the conditions are met. The conditions could be killing an enemy, or change stances. To obtain these gemstones, the player must open chests, which become available after solving a puzzle.
Puzzles can either open a new path or reward the player with a chest filled with loot, such as gems, health potions, quest items, collectibles, currency, or skill points. Some of the puzzles are simple, such as collecting orbs around an area to unlock the chest, finding the right combination of pressure plates, or dealing a certain amount of damage in a limited time. However, there are more complex puzzles that are part of the main story, usually unlocking a new area and requiring certain abilities to complete them.
Narrative
The story begins at the Forgotten Plane, where our hero regains consciousness. Although she is aware of herself, her memories are lost due to the environmental curse which makes her think that she is safe, altering her mind. As the curse weakens, she gathers her strength back and attempts to escape. Her journey takes her across dark, foggy landscapes, snowy mountains, infinite deserts from heaven to the depths of hell, dungeons filled with enemies and bosses, and structures filled with puzzles. Despite everything being against her, she is determined to gather every missing piece of information about her past. While alone in the world against numerous enemies, she can conjure constructs such as fist weapons, swords, hammers, and bows with her mind to defeat her foes, and solve puzzles, just to be closer to the destination to gather back her memory and what happened with her family.
